Expressing grave concern over the recently passed "Vagabond and Shelterless Persons (Rehabilitation) Bill- 2011", different rights organisations yesterday requested the government to scrap it immediately and formulate another in sync with human rights.
In a joint statement, the organisations said the act will legalise indiscriminate apprehension of deprived people by law enforcers, violating people's basic rights.
The definition of a vagabond is not specified and there are chances of widespread misuse, said the statement.
Ain O Salish Kendra (Ask) Executive Director (acting) Nur Khan signed the statement on behalf of Ask, Brac and Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust.
