Thirteen prisoners convicted for life term were released from Barisal central jail on Wednesday night after president of the republic pardoned ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Of the 13 freed prisoners 10 were convicted in murder cases while three for Kidnapping and other offenses.
It was the second largest mass release in the history of this jail and highest 49 were released from this jail on same occasion August 20, 2010 last year.
Md Sagir Mia, senior deputy jailor of Barisal Central Jail, said, 'The convicted are being released under section 569 of the first part of prison code, which grants amnesty to prisoners who are elderly or have showed good conduct and spent at least 20 years in jail.'
The released pensioner are Motaleb Majhi, Noore Alam Shikder and Jamal Haolader of Nalcity upazila under Jhalakathi, Alam Kabir Mahbub, Mazid Sarder, Sarfuddin Haolader of Muladi upazila, Samsul Haque Khalifa and Hossen Khan of Bakerganj upazila, Fazlul Haque Khan of Banaripara upazila in Barisal, Babul Sikdar and Harun Haolader of Vandaria upazila in Pirojpur, Abu Haolader of Betagi upazila in Barguna and Ahmmed Ullah of Charfession upazila in Bhola.
