Local people set two vehicles on fire, suspending vehicular movement on the Airport Road for about an hour after a female garment worker died in a road accident at Bandartila in the Chittagong city Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Mousumi, 25, a worker at the Polo Garments at the Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone and resident of Bhai Bhai Colony near Navy School in the city.
The police and local sources said a covered van ran over the garment worker while she was crossing the road in front of TCB Gate of Bandartila at about 8:30pm, leaving her dead on the spot.
Kushum Dewan, deputy commissioner at the port zone of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police, said the angry mob set the covered van and a bus on fire after the incident, suspending vehicular movements on the road.
'Informed, fire fighters doused the fire after half an hour,' he said, adding that vehicular movement had resumed at about 9:30pm.
